Task 2.3 - Reflection

Completing the three full days of the life of the teacher taught me new skills and allowed me to gain further knowledge. As a student teacher you barely get a chance to take over from the teacher for a full day as the teachers still see you as someone that is learning.

During the three full days of teaching I was able to manage the class, teach and perform admin and extra curricular activities during the school hours. Although this task seemed daunting in the beginning, I soon realized that it wasn't and that I was more than capable of taking over from my mentor teacher as she had provided me with enough guidance and knowledge to complete these days.

The most challenging parts of the days were to mark all the learners books while managing the class during their independent work time. Books are required to be marked every day and it felt like there was not enough time to mark al the books while completing all the other activities and tasks.

From my beginner teacher competencies, I would potentially rate myself higher in with being able to assess learners in reliable and varied ways, and to be able to reflect critically. Throughout these three days of full teaching, I have been able to begin adjusting my teaching methods to assist the learners in various ways.

Comparing my final comments from my mentor teacher with my initial self-evaluation it is evident that as a beginner teacher I have areas to improve on to better my teachings, however one main change is that my mentor teacher identified that I was at a distinguished level in identifying and adapting my teaching methods to the unique needs of the learners in diverse settings. My mentor teachers final comments indicate that I was able to adapt to the world of teaching as well as I was able to confidently engage with the learners.
